These colourful little beads are made from a water-absorbing polymer and as the beads absorb water, they will grow. They feel like smooth, soft, squishy marbles and are a ton of fun for sensory play, scooping, pouring or outdoor water tables and kiddie pools.
The sodium polyacrylate is non-toxic and safe to be touched but can not be eaten- young children will require supervision if they put things in their mouth.
Once you are done they can be stored in a container with a lid- we found a dash of tea tree oil helped keep them from molding, or they can be laid flat on a towel to dehydrate and be stored to use again.
For outdoor play they are safe to be thrown on the lawn or into plants and will absorb and release water over time and break down. Although not fully biodegradable, they are eco friendly and made of the same material is often used in potting mix to retain moisture. They can also be added to compost bins to keep them moist and aid in decomposition.
They can take up to 8 hours to reach their full size and need to be fully immersed in water. Part of the fun is setting them up and watching them grow, or set them up the evening before and let kids see what has happened the next morning when they will be ready for play.
DO NOT dispose of them down the drain or toilet. They will hold the water and clog pipes.
Comes in a bag filled with about 1 cup (8 ounce/230 grams) of dehydrated water beads. Most sensory bin play would use between 1-3 Tbsp.
